Time to Get Dressed

{Domino Magazine}

I grew up watching Old Hollywood movies and the thing I loved most about watching them were the costumes. Women would take such care of getting dressed back then, even for running errands! And they would take their time getting ready in these lavish dressing rooms filled with beautiful clothes. Times have changed and I may be speaking for myself but I just don't spend that much time dressing myself. I'm happy if I can think up of an outfit the night before, which rarely happens.

My good friend, Lindsey, just got the Elfa system installed in her closet and it got me thinking how wonderful it would be to have our closet organized in some way. Well, I guess I can't really speak for my husband on this matter since his side of the closet is actually neat. But one look at my side and you'll ask "how do you even know where to find things?"

If we had some kind of closet system installed I'm sure I would enjoy dressing myself much more than I do right now. Cause right now, I do NOT enjoy getting dressed. I can't find anything, my shoes are hidden, and don't even get me started on my handbags. True story, a few weeks ago, I was just digging through my side of the closet and discovered a handbag that I had completely forgotten that I had owned! Me forgetting that I owned a handbag?! That's how bad my side is.

I have a closet right now and the goal is to have a dressing room. I have a long way to go if I want mine to resemble any of the ones below, but I'm definitely going to try if it means enjoying an aspect of life that I don't just yet.

A bit more extravagant than I would go for but I really love the old-world feel this gives off.

If Victoria's Secret designed a dressing room, this is what it would look like.

This is exactly what I would picture JCrew's Creative Director, Jenna Lyons, dressing room to look like. Casual but filled with chic pieces.

Can you imagine having a dressing room like this as a teenager?

I love the use of wallpaper in a closet. It really spices the space up.

The Look of Spring

I was at my parents' house this weekend to celebrate my brother's birthday and while I was there I had noticed that they had gotten a lot more snow than we did in Annapolis. Not surprising since they are north of us, but what surprised me was that the tree in their front yard was starting to bud. I actually had to look twice to make sure I wasn't seeing things. I mean, geez we just had several blizzards and this poor tree is already budding. But I got really excited cause this just means one thing... Spring is coming!

We've already gotten the itch for Spring (we've bought multiple Hyacinth plants) and are dying for warmer weather, so of course I'm already wanting to get the house ready for Spring. I had to tell myself this morning that it's too soon to bust out the canvas slipcovers for the dining chairs*. But it is most definitely not too soon to bring some spring plants into the house. I've already got two Hyacinths (they're actually not looking too good at the moment) that need to be placed in a proper planter of some sort.

These are a few that I had in mind to put on my dining table for the Hyacinths and hopefully tulips that I can find.
Red In Bloom Tulip Planter for $25.99

Ceramics Chinoiserie 12" Oval Planter for $39.99

Vera Bradley Yellow Bird Cachepot for $38.00

Galvanized Oval Planter for $34.00

10.5" L Gingko & Butterfly Footbath for $59.99

White Indoor Planter for $9.99

Wallpaper Porcelain Cachepot for $28.00

Chelsea House Swinton Cachepot for $137.50

Dessau Tole Cachepot for $145.00

*I slipcover our dark leather dining chairs to lighten the mood of the dining room for Spring and Summer and remove them for the Fall and Winter months.

A Dining Room Worth Swooning Over

{House Beautiful}

Aren't you glad it's Friday?? I swear, this week felt so very long and not in a good way either. I'm so glad the sun is out melting the snow, although it is going to take some time for the mountains of snow to melt away. But I'm happy because tonight I get to hang out with my girls and just have a good time.

Don't you just think the photo above is magical in an old-world, rustic-with-a-touch-of-glitz way? I do! And it looks so warm and inviting and I can actually picture friends gathering to have a great ol' time. Very similar to what I'll be doing tonight. Can't wait ladies!

Wanted: A Mudroom

I have to admit that with all of the blizzards we've been getting I haven't really done my part in the shoveling-snow department. My husband has been such a good sport about taking care of it all that I really haven't had a chance to help out. I kid, I kid. I have gone out a few times and I just have to tell ya, the whole thing sucks. From bundling up, to going out in the frigid cold, to coming back in and making a mess with the removal of the bundling. A girl can only take so much! But what really gets me is the mess that you bring in from the outside. All that snow that you bring in, just melting onto the floors really is a pet peeve of mine. (I have this weird thing with my feet being wet if they're not supposed too.)

But like I said, the mess that you create once you get back in is never ending. I wouldn't be so annoyed or frustrated with it all if I had a proper mudroom to control the snowy mess but I don't so I can't. What I can do is dream of the day that I do get a mudroom and start thinking of how I would want it to look like and function.

The ones below are just a few that I could find that I think are perfect.

{Better Homes and Gardens}

{House Beautiful}

I prefer mudrooms that are a completely separate room from the rest of the house. Containment is key.

Built-ins are such a great idea for mudrooms. All that extra space you create for cubby-holes.

{Pottery Barn}

Side entranced mudrooms are the best, I think.

Bulletin Board: Amanda Nisbet

Yay! I found another interior designer who mixes traditional pieces with fresh & modern colors and patterns! Amanda Nisbet is definitely not scared of colors or patterns and keeps in line with a traditional style. She also incorporates a lot of Parisian elements, so naturally I like her work.
