Homes and Gardens

Wow, has it really been a year since I last wrote about our home office? I feel terrible that I've not only let you guys down by not finishing the room properly, but also neglecting the room to the point where it really is not pretty at the moment. It became our storage room throughout the year since neither my husband nor I used it for it's original purpose. BUT, I am happy to say that I am gearing up to restore it to it's full glory.

I've been working in the office for the past week and while it's not exactly in tip-top shape, I wanted to get a feel for how I would use the space before deciding how I think the space should be filled & decorated. It's actually been really nice working in here (I feel sort of silly not having used this space for the whole year!) especially since I can belt out tunes without having to worry about disturbing my husband. No but seriously, I've been taking my time figuring out where I want things to be placed in order to better serve my needs efficiently. And of course I've also thought about the aesthetics too. Can't leave that out, since that's my favorite part about decorating a space.

To start off, I know for sure that I want to add more color to the room and I've decided that I want to add window treatments that bring color to the room since the wall color is quite neutral. To get some ideas, I've gathered these images to get me motivated and inspired. Which is your favorite?

Playful yet polished windows that could definitely translate to an adult space.

Obviously, this doesn't make sense for an office but I just thought it was so darling.

Pelmet boxes are looking like my fav choice for the office. A fellow blogger, Jenny from Little Green Notebook who I think is absolutely genius, has step-by-step instructions on how to make your own easy pelmet boxes - I know what my weekend project is.

Even though this is a kid's room, I would still rock that fabric in my office.

  4. @Kathysue - Yes! I wish I had a reason to have something like that in my house, but not just yet ;) It really is difficult! I always take forever deciding what to put in my house, unless its an impulse purchase which tends to happen more frequently than I'd like to admit. And good luck to you for deciding on wallpaper. Can't wait to see your entry!

  6. @Sarah Jane - I know what you mean when it comes to chevrons! I can't seem to get enough of them either. The least expensive chevron fabric I seem to be finding are on Etsy. Here's a link to a black & white one - http://www.etsy.com/listing/61923379/decorative-designer-fabric-black-and

I'm still keeping my eyes out for more, so I'll let you know when I come across more :)
