Gettin' A Move On With The Nursery

How was everyone's weekend? Mine was great! We finally got started on our nursery and although we still have awhiles to go, can I just say how good it feels to have finally cleared out and vacuumed the room? Last night we continued in our spell of motivation and picked out a few paint samples to see what would work best in the room under various lighting conditions. We picked up Whisper Violet which was on my nursery design board, and also picked up Lavender Ice, Iced Lavender, and Violet Dusk. And yes, there is a different between Lavender Ice and Iced Lavender, trust me.

We need to spackle and sand the walls before we paint them (we've got a ton of wall shelves that we need to remove since they just won't work with the new design) and then we can start adding furniture and all of the other cute little things I've got stored away for the room. It'll be so nice to finally see all of the things that we've collected for our little girl in her new nursery. I even picked up some yellow velvet baby hangers for her already sizable wardrobe, although I still need to buy some more since I ran out.

Oh, and that reminds me. Much to my dismay, Steve is against me wallpapering the inside of the closet (he claims it's too difficult to do ourselves and doesn't want to pay someone to do it), even though I found the PERFECT wallpaper to go in there. Hygge & West' Petal Pusher in Gold/White would be so perfect, but as a compromise, I've found a wall stencil (Rockin Roses Floral Damask) that is quite similar in pattern and scale to replicate Hygge & West' wallpaper. So, now with this compromise, we are planning on painting the inside of the closet white (it's got the cheap flat builders paint in there - scuff marks galore!), so all I need to do is find the perfect shade of gold paint and stencil to my heart's content.

Gray Bedrooms With Green Accents

Did everyone enjoy their long weekend? I certainly did. It was so nice to relax the whole weekend and spend time just lounging around the house with Steve. We were so relaxed in fact, that we didn't want to work on the nursery. Well, actually the reason we didn't work on it was that we couldn't find someone to help us move furniture since I can't help Steve lift any heavy objects anymore. I'm hopeful that we can work on it this coming weekend since we have no plans, I just need to bribe my brothers to help us out for a few hours. Fingers crossed that they'll say yes to helping us out!

I also had a phone date with one of my best friends, Alicia, who lives in Atlanta. She's been wanting to redecorate her bedroom for a while now, so we were chatting about the direction in which she wants the redo to go. A gray & green color scheme is what she is aiming for, but she's having a hard time visualizing exactly what she wants. I told her that working on one's own bedroom is one of the hardest decorating projects in my opinion, mainly because it's a place where you spend so much time and therefore you want it to be perfect. Plus, at least for me, I like so many different styles and colors that it's always difficult to decide on anything. Which is why our bedroom is still a work-in-progress.

Bulletin Board: Kelly Wearstler

High Fashion Home

Who's happy it's a Friday of a 3-day weekend? I am! Steve and I have plans to relax, go shopping (that's more my idea), and start working on the nursery. You would think that we would've started earlier, but since I can't lift heavy objects and Steve is so busy with work, we just haven't had time (or energy) to really work on it until now. I am super excited to get the room cleared out so we can start testing out paint colors. And even though we're sticking pretty close to the Design Board I created, a part of me wishes I could be a bit bolder with some of items going in the nursery. It doesn't help that I just started reading "Hue" by Kelly Wearstler because this woman is all about being fearless with her designs. I love that about her, and think she is the absolute definition of fabulous.

All you need to do is look at images of her interiors and you can pretty much tell what her aesthetic is all about: glamour, color, and individuality. I'll throw in sexy for good measure too. Whatever this woman creates just dazzles me and I honestly cannot stop looking at her designs. Her love of mid-century furnishings echoes my own and her use of gold inspires me. Oddly enough, my favorite image out of the bunch below is the very last one. The light fixtures, the gold & white palette, and the softness of the peach chairs is a heavenly combination. "Hue" by Kelly Wearstler


I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day! Steve and I are postponing our Valentine's Day celebration until tomorrow. Reason being that he had a business trip yesterday and then today we're celebrating my brother's 26th birthday (Happy Birthday Tim!) while my parents are in S.Korea. Even though we agreed on celebrating Valentine's Day on Thursday, Steve couldn't help himself and surprised me with a little gift last night when he got home. He knows how much I love decor books and got me one that I have been eye'ing for a while.

Books are a bit of a luxury item for me since they tend to add up once you start purchasing more than one. So you can imagine how happy I was to get Kelly Wearstler's "Hue" yesterday. Her interiors are sexy, bold, and fabulous and what more could you ask for in a room? I love how fearless she is with her interiors and I'm hoping that'll rub off onto me while I'm reading this book.

I can pretty much say with confidence that I'll cover some of her interiors sometime this week if not tomorrow, but here are a couple photos of her work below. Till then, have a great Wednesday!

Happy Valentine's Day!


I'm back to reality after one of the loveliest and most fabulous weekends I've ever had! Over the weekend, my best friend (LWs) got married and it was just the best wedding ever. She was the most beautiful bride I have ever seen and it was honestly a magical evening/weekend. The happy couple left for their romantic Parisian honeymoon on Sunday and so to extend the weekend as much as possible, yesterday I had lunch with two of my closest girlfriends (A & Linds) and then went shopping in Georgetown.

After dropping off Steve's rental tuxedo shirt (from the wedding) before hitting up Georgetown shopping, A & I decided to pop into Dalton Pratt since it was just a few shops down from the tailor. If there was ever a store to indulge your fashion accessory, jewelry, and home decor fantasies, then this is it. The minute you walk in, you're welcomed by the sweetest little dog (besides Emma), and then once you've said your hellos to the little pooch, you're instantly presented with the decision of either looking at the jewelry in the display cases OR the handbags & clutches that adorn the walls of the store. While looking around, one of the ladies said that they have an upstairs as well and that we should definitely check it out. So right on up we went - that is where I instantly got giddy. They've got a delightful collection of mirrors, lamps, rugs, nightstands, artwork, and accessories that I just ate up. I've only seen these items online and so to see them in person was a real treat.

I snapped some photos of their goodies with my iPhone so forgive the quality of the photos below. But if you are ever in the Washington, DC area, please go check out this store! I promise that you will not be disappointed. Oh, and if you still need to find a Valentine's Day gift for your lady, head to this store! You'll definitely find something there for her.

Valentine's Day Treats

I'm not all that big on celebrating Valentine's Day. Granted, that doesn't mean I don't appreciate receiving gifts (hint hint). But if you are big on Valentine's Day and need to help out your honey with dropping hints, just send them a link to this post to check out these Valentine's Day treats that I found. And if you don't have a honey to share the day with, who says you can't be your own Valentine? I say that Valentine's Day is a day of indulging so why not indulge yourself? I'm planning on indulging myself whether or not Steve gets me anything, ha!

On another note, I'll be uber busy from tomorrow afternoon until Sunday afternoon. The fabulous reason being that my best friend (LW) is getting married this Saturday! I am SO excited to be a part of her BIG day, and to share in all of the fun wedding festivities. I'll be sure to post some pics of the wedding as soon as I can, but in the meantime below is a picture of me and the bride. Cannot wait to celebrate together, LWs!

A Great Day @ The Design House

This is the Old Lucketts Store. I had meant to take a picture of The Design House, but in the excitement of shopping, it slipped my mind.

Did you guys make it out to The Design House this weekend? I did! And boy what a treat it was. Granted, driving for 2 hours to get out there was no fun, but once we got there I was SO excited to get shopping. Normally, I go to these tag sales with no particular shopping list, but this time around I had a very specific list to follow: two nightstands, two table lamps, some wall decor, and a dresser for my parents' basement guest room. Sadly, I wasn't able to check these off my list because I arrived a bit late and all the pieces that I loved were already claimed (drat!). BUT, I scored majorly with a gorgeous chinoiserie lamp (see photo below, it just needs a little TLC). It was too pretty to pass up even though it wasn't on my shopping list. And at $20, I had to snatch it up before anybody else could!


Even though I didn't make out like a bandit, it was still so much fun to look at all of their goods and to enjoy a nice day out with my hubby looking at things that make me so happy. If you missed out on this sale, no worries, the Old Lucketts Store is open daily so go check it out when you have a chance. And I'll mention this again closer to the date, but the Lucketts 13th Annual Spring Market (May 19th-20th) is another HUGE event that is truly amazing. I highly recommend this market because I was literally drooling over EVERYTHING last year and plan to do so again this year. I'll make sure to have a reminder post on this when we get closer to May 19-20th.

Steve really liked this chair, and at $380 it would've been a steal but alas we didn't take it home.
