Hey everyone! I'm about to head out to Target to pick up some necessities, but while I'm gone head over to Très Chic Mama to check ...
The saying "you always want what you can't have" is SO true, especially when you're pregnant. All I want is everything I can't have. Sparkling wine, Italian cold cut subs, caffeine at all hours of the day, and to travel. A lot of my friends are traveling this week for weddings (Jamaica and the Outerbanks), and the little green monster in me is very, very jealous. All I can think of is how they'll all be soaking in the sun and having cocktails on the beach while I'm waddling around like Humpty Dumpty.
Well, all I can do is dream of the day when I can travel abroad again (which most likely won't be for a long while). So, to help me envision my future trip(s) to somewhere relaxing and warm, I've gathered these items that I've deemed necessary to accompany me.

Not that I need any more reason to want to stay in bed all day (it's all I want to do at 39 weeks pregnant), but I wouldn't mind updating our bedding situation to something that will make it even more irresistible to stay in bed for that extra bit of shuteye in the morning. Currently, we have the Pearl Embroidered Duvet Cover and Shams in Sandalwood from Pottery Barn, and while I really like the crisp style of this set, I would definitely like some more color. Not too much more, but just a tad bit more since the walls are very light in our room.
I'm loving all of the different types of monograms used in the photos below, but I especially love the ones from Leontine Linens. It's just too bad they're way out of my price range. I think a future DIY project is a must if I want to achieve a similar look without blowing the bank.

This past Friday I discovered a new show that I will surely be DVR'ing from now on: "I Brake For Yard Sales" on HGTV. You might already recognize the lovely host, Lara Spencer, as she is also the lifestyle anchor for Good Morning America. Her new show features her pursuing amazing flea market and thrift store finds, which she then restores and uses for beautiful room redecorations. She travels all over to find these amazing pieces and gives the viewer tips & tricks to accomplishing her high end looks for a reasonable price.
Watching her scour these incredible LA flea markets and thrift stores gets me incredibly motivated to do the same here in the DC, VA, MD area. Her tastes in pieces, and the palettes and patterns that she uses when recycling/restoring them, are exactly in line with my personal style. She's not afraid of bold colors and prints, and seeing what she creates really inspires me.
I will definitely be checking out her book ASAP. I'll let you all know how it is!

I decided that I just had to have these yellow flower dessert plates, so I picked those up too.
In the past few days, I've been hard at work finishing up thank-you cards for all of the lovely baby showers we've had recently (3, can you believe it??). I've also been putting away all of the gifts we've received and doing loads of laundry so that Victoria has lots of outfits and blankets at the ready when she arrives.
In my quest for cute thank-you cards, my search ended at Target. Well, really the search started and ended at Target since I knew they would have the best selection out of any retailer nearby. And I was right because it took me literally 25 minutes to decide which thank-you cards, out of a huge selection, I was going to take home with me. And really the decision was between 3 designs from the same designer. You guessed it: Mara-Mi clearly won me over with their designs, so much so that I was in the stationery aisle for a while, pacing back and forth contemplating my choice. In the end I decided on the Multi Dot thank you cards (see below) since I thought they were most appropriate for a baby shower-related thank you theme.
After I decided on the Multi Dot thank you cards, I noticed that Mara-Mi offered other paper goods that were equally colorful and fun. From gift bags (absolutely adorable!) & tissue paper to paper plates & napkins, they come in the same fresh designs as their stationery cousins. Check out a sampling of their offerings from their site below, then head on over to your nearest Target to check them out in person!

Is it too much to ask to have my jewelry displayed like Kate Spade jewelry?
I haven't hit that moment yet where I'm in full "nesting" mode, but I can certainly tell you that I have been wanting to tidy up a bit more than usual. Steve would probably disagree, but I beg to differ. I know as soon as little Miss Victoria arrives, I won't have any time to do anything else so I might as well get going now.
One place that needs my attention are my jewelry displays. They are in total chaos and although my current setup has worked so far, I realized last weekend that I really need to make a bigger effort to clean it up and make it more presentable and functional. Especially because when people come over to our house they can currently see the dust piling up on my displays. The current setup is as follows: a jewelry tree in our master bathroom, an earring tree on my vanity desk, two jewelry display cases hanging on the wall next to the vanity desk, and several traveling jewelry cases on my vanity desk. I truly dislike how everything is spread out and not in one location, so that is definitely one issue I need to address. The other is how to display it all while keeping a somewhat cohesive and clean look.
Here's what I've got so far:
I've got 2 of these, but I'm thinking I might need to find one or two more.
Mine is white and from Urban Outfitters but you get the gist.
I've got this holding my vintage jewelry & purses from my store, Shop Proper Hunt, but I bet I could also use it to store my own jewelry.
I've got a few of these boxes that I definitely want to use in this reorganizing project.
I have some idea of what I want to do but just to help me out, I've gathered a few images to get my creative juices flowing.
This would be pricey to do, but how cute is it? Plus, it would be like opening a present each time you look at your jewelry.
Such a great DIY! I don't think I have that many rings for this size of a frame but I can certainly create a smaller one.
