Updates // Projects & Gifts

I got the Grace book as a birthday gift from my bestie, LWT, and I can't wait to read it! And I got the shoes on major sale (under $60!!) at Ann Taylor a few weeks ago. I didn't own a pair of black heels (crazy, I know) so I figured it was time to get some.

TGIF! And what a beautiful day to start the weekend too. There's lots to do this weekend. Cora's 1st birthday is coming up (did you see her invitations on my Instagram??), so I've got decoration planning on my mind. To make things somewhat easier (when is it ever really easy planning a big birthday party?), I've decided that her birthday will have a theme. I think it'll help me decide exactly what to get if I'm restricted to a theme. You know me, I love everything, so if this makes it easier to narrow things down, then I'm all for it.

I'm leaning towards a French/Parisian theme and have found some great inspiration on the web. How easy and adorable is this Paris idea? The use of black tape is GENIUS. Definitely going to have to try to work that into the decor because it's SO cost effective and well, visually effective. And luckily, I received several large packages in the mail recently, so I'm thinking that I can use the cardboard boxes the packages came in to make this chic awning - a definite must above the dessert table, right? I don't know if I'll actually do this, but I just adore this idea for any birthday cake. Simple but makes a statement in a chic, hipster kind of way, right?

And another item on my to-do list is to get the chair below reupholstered and repainted. I have been wanting an office space of my own (I don't have one right now unless you count the kitchen island, where I do most if not all of my blogging) and have decided that the vanity table in our bedroom will just have to do. I would have loved to have this desk, but that wasn't going to happen so the next best thing without breaking the bank was this chic little number from Target's new Threshold line. I wasn't a fan of the hardware so I switched them out with these beauties.

But getting back to the chair. I currently have a vanity chair but it is so uncomfortable. Even sitting in it for a few minutes hurts my butt and back. And when I write a blog post, I'm usually working on it for at least 2 hours, so I knew I needed a chair that would be comfy, small enough to fit in the space in our bedroom, and look great. Chairs can be expensive, so the first place that I checked out was Craigslist and voilà! I found it for $75! I talked them down to $50 and I suppose I could've talked the guy down even further but I was too scared of losing the chair since it's impossible to find a barrel-back chair in good condition at that price point.

So now the question is what color do I paint the chair and what fabric do I reupholster it in? Our bedroom is quite subtle and in my opinion boring, so you'd think it would be easy to pick out a paint color & fabric combo, but because the bedroom is another place we'd like to repaint (but have yet to do, surprise surprise) it's not just choosing a paint color & fabric for the chair -- we have to figure out what color to paint the walls in the room, too. And on top of that, what kind of drapes too since we don't have any right now and would love to get some. Ahh, the possibilities are endless, no?

Clearly, I've got lots to do this weekend and I am so eager to get started on it all. Hope you all have lots of fun things to do this weekend!

on a side note, I totally attempted this project with a folding chair we had and well... I'm not an upholstery master. You may or may not get stabbed with staples every time you sit in it. :(
