Christmas Table with Satsumas

satsuma-3

What a weekend! We had some of our best friends over for a Christmas dinner & sleepover this past Saturday and am still coming down from all the fun we had. Steve had made Beef Short Ribs (Ina Garten's recipe) along with creamy mashed potatoes, and a simple salad to cut through the heaviness of both dishes. And my small contribution to this meal was deviled eggs (The Pioneer Woman's recipe) as an appetizer along with some strawberries & cheese. And our lovely guests brought a variety of desserts for us to enjoy.

When we were planning this Christmas meal, I had it in my mind to have roses adorn the table in smaller vases, instead of one big arrangement. But when I was picking up the flowers at Whole Foods, I saw these gorgeous satsumas with their stems still attached and knew that it would make for a simple yet festive centerpiece. And not just a centerpiece for the dinner party, but to have on the table everyday or until we eat them all, hehe.

I'm sure a good number of you are hosting holiday parties this year, so I just wanted to share another option for a centerpiece instead of flowers. Satsumas and other wintery fruits such as pears and pomegranates are a great way to add color to the table without going the flower route. I couldn't resist the roses I found so I decided to have both flowers and fruit. Here are a few snaps of the table before we devoured our dinner.

Don't worry, I removed those tall bottle brush trees before we ate since they would've blocked our view from each while eating.
