There isn't a truer statement regarding the above (and below images) that OTK (over-the-knee) boots make a statement no matter what you wear. But I just have to say that when it comes to OTK boots, the black suede variety kind of takes the cake in that realm. I feel like OTK boots had somewhat of a negative stigma because they may or may not have reflected a lifestyle of prostitution (remember those black patent leather ones from Pretty Woman?).

I remember back in 2004 (holy heck I can't believe it was that long ago!), Steve took me on our second annual trip to NYC to see the Rockefeller Christmas tree. I knew it was going to be freezing and wanted a pair of boots for this trip. In my head, going to NYC was this big deal and I had to have the perfect wardrobe. I still feel that way in some ways, but I'm no where as crazy-stressed about figuring out what to pack. Anywho, I knew exactly what kind of boots I wanted. Over-the-knee black boots. And let me tell you, it was impossible to find! I scoured and scoured stores (both online and brick-and-mortar) for several weeks until I stumbled upon the most perfect pair of black suede flat OTK boots. They were on some random website and after purchasing them, I wasn't 100% sure if I had gotten scammed or not. But they arrived and they were perfect! Now, the only thing I was worried about was being mistaken for a floozy because nobody back then wore these boots. But you know what, I was too in love with them to care so I rocked them.

Nowadays, OTK boots are everywhere and I am so thankful they are because that means 1) no one will think you're a floozy, 2) there's such a variety in style and price to choose from that you're bound to find something you like, and 3) again, no one will think you're a floozy.

I picked up these Dolce Vita ones a few years ago (similar) and they have been a staple in my wardrobe ever since. I wanted to show how they elevate a somewhat simple top to new heights. I guess I shouldn't call this top simple, because the flouncy hem line isn't simple at all. It's a fun top, but I knew that the boots would really bring the top to life and make it a little less boho and a bit more edgy. And at under $23, the top (a marriage of simplicity and yet having something unique going on) was a definite addition to my closet. With it's neutral color, I can see myself wearing it with black leggings, white skinny jeans, and skinny jeans like the one I'm wearing in this post.
