NYC // NYFW

Tuesday, September 10, 2013

I had found an amazing deal on Jetsetter for the Sofitel and couldn't pass it up. This was our suite for the night and we were so happy with it. The service was fantastic and the views were equally amazing.

What an amazing weekend! We went to NYC this past weekend just for a quick one-nighter to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary and we just had such a wonderful time. You see, NYC holds a pretty special place in our hearts since it's the first city to which we ever went on a trip together. Back then, nearly 10 years ago (!) I had never been to NYC. I casually mentioned that to Steve when we first started dating and as a Christmas gift, he surprised me with a trip there. And ever since that first trip, we have always tried to make it out to the Big Apple every year, as a tradition of sorts. We hadn't been in a few years though (understandably with the arrival of Cora and all), and knew that going there for our 5th anniversary would be a perfect way to celebrate.

We had a great time full of good food, shopping, and just relaxing in our suite. Ever since Cora was born we've never taken a trip with just the two of us, so this was a really big treat for us. There were moments when we would hear phantom cries (for parents with young children, you know what I'm talking about), but we were in disbelief that we had freedom even just for a short while. It was a combination of feeling joy and anxiousness because we just couldn't believe that we didn't have to follow a toddler's schedule. It also didn't hurt that New York Fashion Week (NYFW) was going on at the same time. I was lucky enough to go to a Cynthia Rowley presentation (courtesy of Dallas - thx girl!) and took a ton of pictures below. And the 80s starlet that I saw on my way in to the presentation is none other than Kelly Kapowski! Tiffany Amber Thiessen left while I was going in to see the fashions and she looked amazing, of course! And right behind her was Nigel Barker from America's Next Top Model. Fun seeing these celebrities in real life.

I'll stop talking now and let you take a look at the fun we had through the photos below. And thank you to the grandparents for making this weekend possible! Especially my parents who watched her for two full days, which is not an easy task. We thank you both and Tranmom for watching her!

And don't forget, you have until the end of today (12am midnight EST) to enter my Rablabs Giveaway! You could win these lovelies!

We had never been to Bryant Park so when we discovered how close it was to our hotel, we made sure to check it out. Of course while we were there, we saw a ton of young families and their infants/toddlers which made us miss Cora even more.

We had a romantic dinner celebrating our anniversary at Taboon. It was such a little Mediterranean gem in the city. The decor was spot-on and the food was even more amazing.

The Shopping

The last time I was in NYC, I made out like a bandit at Fishs Eddy, so I made it a definite pitstop on our trip this time around.

Cream colored mason jars? Yes, please.

This is tied for my favorite section in Fishs Eddy. I'm guaranteed to find something that I love, which is exactly what happened this time around.

This is the other section that's tied for my favorite section. I always find tons of goodies here. Especially, little spoons - my obsession.

The other stop that was a must was ABC Carpet and Home. This place is filled with the most whimsical, delicate, gorgeous items and as usual it didn't disappoint. I picked up one of the little vases on the right for my mom - sooo wishing I picked one up for myself.

There wasn't a single thing I didn't love on that counter.

Such chic textiles upstairs - loved the patterns and prints.

The coolest and most delicate candelabra I've ever seen. And at $300+, the most expensive as well.

The one thing you can always count on when you walk into ABC Home is that you'll be blown away by the lighting they have. All of the light fixtures were breath taking or uber sexy (as seen below).

We stopped by at Zara and found this adorable little purse in the kids section. I was so tempted to get it for Cora, but held off. Kind of regretting that we didn't get it for her...

Because we didn't have much time to shop in NYC, I chose a few places that were definite stops and Piperlime was one of them. They are one of my go-to online resources and so it was a no-brainer to go to their only brick-and-mortar store.

That dress on the right was siiick.

I absolutely fell in love with that pale blush bow dress.

Obsessed with that jumpsuit.

Not only were the clothes amazing, but I was really digging the hair and makeup. The eyes might be a little more dramatic than what I would normally do but I loved the combo of dark eyes and pink lips. And the loose waves with the hair pulled to one side - love that.

I might have to get this dress for a wedding next year in Hawaii...just saying.

Stunning.

The lady of the hour, Cynthia Rowley.
