Cherries to adorn the dessert/drinks/favors table for this summer soirée!
Hi guys! I'm finally sharing photos from Vivi's 1st birthday party today! I realize it's long overdue, but with preparing and going on our road trip to Atlanta (more to come on that!), I didn't have much time to work on it until now. I think I may have mentioned on either Snapchat or in a previous blog post that I wasn't going to stress myself out with going overboard with Vivi's party. And I really kept my word on that. I mean, I still decorated and prepared for it but I didn't kill myself over it like I did with Cora's 1st birthday party.
As with any party I host, I love having a theme to work with since it helps me so much with choosing decorations and food and all that good stuff. For Vivi's party, I kept it simple by choosing the broad theme of Summer. I figured since we're right smack in the middle of summer, why not incorporate all things summer for the party. The obvious things I think of during summer are: BBQ, cherries, beach/pool, & s'mores. And you better believe I incorporated all of those things in her party. We had both bbq and Korean food on the menu, along with lots of fresh fruit, and as gifts for family to take home, a little s'mores kit.
I realize I just did little dabbles of each of these summery things into the decor, but honestly, a little goes a long way in my opinion. So if you're planning a party, don't stress yourself out, people notice what you put in front of them, they don't notice what you didn't do. Just do what you can and enjoy the party, that's what it's all about, right?
There are so many photos in this post that I'll let you scroll and see what the party was all about. Enjoy!
I included a yellow seersucker table runner to bring a little more summer to the table. We couldn't get any of those rice cake towers that you see at Korean birthday parties, so instead my mom had the brilliant idea of a giant fruit bowl since it could easily represent the same thing, a life of prosperity.
You guessed it, I couldn't help myself with creating floral wreaths for this party. I'm hooked! A DIY is coming up soon!
We ordered bbq from Mission BBQ and it was SO good!
My parents ordered Korean rice cakes for the party, which symbolizes a life of prosperity. I couldn't stop eating those!
These flip flop cookies from Panera were so perfect for the party! And they were absolutely delicious too.
An Italian Cream Cake from The Fresh Market for the grown-ups. I figured between the mini cupcakes and flip flop cookies for the kids, the adults could enjoy the cake to themselves, hehe.
The s'mores kits were a big hit and were so easy to assemble. I got the idea from Pinterest and knew it would be perfect as favors for Vivi's party.
This was the only "good" picture I could get of her with her traditional Korean outfit on. She was too excited that she couldn't stand/sit still!
Being so good with my mom while she gets her dressed.
Having fun with my dad while we wait for more family to arrive.
Saying hello to cousin Ian!
Cora telling her that something really tasty is about to appear for her.
She wasn't entirely sure what to do with the cake.
A little weirded out by the feel.
Annnd she likes it!
Sisters sharing. Thats what I love to see!
In the Korean tradition, you lay items that represent different professions to see what the child picks and that will apparently determine what they will become in the future. She picked the USB hard drive and was very proud of herself! We're thinking she's going to be some kind of engineer with having chosen this.
Big sis helping herself to the food. Can't believe my first baby can do this all by herself!
